You know, I miss practicing capoeria. My old friend and college roommate, Njoli, just invited me to visit his school in New York City and attend the Uptown Street Roda. I’d love to go, but I’ll be at an Obama Rally with Bruce Springsteen in Philly on Saturday.
It’s been about 4 years since I was practicing regularly and I miss the art, the dance, and the guile. I was never acrobatic or really very good, but it stretched my limits and always gave back what I put into it. The only problem I had was the level of disorganization in the main ASCAB Capoeria school. It was virtually impossible to figure out when or where events happened. Too many people and not enough communication. Plus it would have really helped if I spoke a lot more Portuguese. The local Angola group is better organized but it’s hard for me to get to their events.
Anyway, I miss capoeria and hope to get back to it, though I guess it means occasional trips to New York.
